Tapping Your Troubles Away
EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) otherwise known as “Tapping” is a technique designed to help clients with PTSD, fears, phobias, recent trauma, and other anxiety-based conditions.
Many people are confused about why they feel the way they do especially if the traumatic experience did not affect them directly. To explain why this happens, one must understand the energy flow of the body. Similar to how we hold our breath and whence when we experience pain, a disruption of energy also occurs when we experience direct or indirect trauma. This disruption, if left untreated will intensify adding layer after layer of emotional distress until one day you feel as if you can no longer function properly. Additionally, you do not need to be directly affected by an experience to feel the emotions that come from it, for example, have you ever cried while watching a movie? While you may not know these actors and actresses, the mind cannot distinguish the difference between reality and fantasy and for some of us, that means we take on all the emotions that you would normally experience had this been an actual event.
EFT is an evidenced-based approach that has been validated in more than 100 clinical trials including many meta-analyses for the treatment of PTSD, anxiety, and depression.
EFT is a non-evasive technique that targets the intensity of the emotions of the event followed by a series of statements and tapping which some state as positive affirmations and the release of negative energy. Releasing the negative energy is done by tapping on meridian points used in both acupressure and acupuncture.
EFT has gained in popularity due to its ease of use, effectiveness, and long-lasting results in a brief period of time. It has been stated that results are achieved in as little as 4 to 10 sessions and clients can be taught to utilize the technique for themselves outside of session.
